Reticle Studio
Design a custom rifle-scope reticle right in your browser — crosshairs, BDC ladders, christmas-tree holds, chevrons and more, all to exact MIL/MOA subtensions. When you're done, export it as a file or grab a short code to load it straight into the Zima Ballistics app.
Reticle Studio is a brand-new feature under active development — things may change and you might hit the odd rough edge. Spotted a bug or have an idea? Let us know.
How to use Reticle Studio ▾
About the presets
The built-in presets are independent approximations of third-party reticles — Trijicon (ACOG), Leupold, Horus (TREMOR 3) and ELCAN. Zima is not affiliated with these brands and they have not provided reticle data; presets are for illustration and as starting points only.
The basics
- Add an element — open + Add and choose a shape (crosshair, dot, hash ladder, chevron, christmas-tree, BDC ladder, label, and more). It drops at the center.
- Select & edit it — click the element on the canvas (or in the left Elements list). Its settings appear in the right panel — sizes are in MIL/MOA to exact subtensions.
- Position it — drag the element on the canvas. It snaps to a fine grid, and locks to the center axes (you'll see a blue guide line) when it's close.
- Try a preset — open Presets to load a complete real-world reticle as a starting point.
Zoom, move & select
- Zoom: scroll your mouse wheel / trackpad over the canvas (zooms toward the cursor), or use the + / − buttons (the fainter pair below them is fine ±1% zoom). The ⊕ button (or F) re-centers and fits the view.
- Move / pan: hold Alt/Option and drag, or drag with the middle mouse button. Arrow keys nudge the view too.
- Select: click an element. Cmd/Ctrl+click adds more to the selection; click empty space to deselect.
- Reorder / group: drag rows in the Elements list to change draw order; select several and group them.

Reference image & finishing
- ⊞ Ref loads a photo or PDF of a real reticle to trace over — adjust its opacity/scale and lock it in place. It never appears in your exports.
- FOV sets the scope field-of-view the reticle is designed for (this is metadata — separate from how far you're zoomed in).
- Export when done: download a .reticle.json file, an SVG/PNG, or tap Get Share Code for a 6-character code to load it in the Zima Ballistics app.
